SCCA Road Rally in Northeastern Oklahoma
Year-end Report
The new RoadRally season began after the USRRC event on October 22-24, 2010 which is covered in the January Sports Car magazine. Bob Strattan and Gary Deaton attended one of the first events of the new year when they ventured up to Lawrence, KS for the Kansas Rally Weekend November 13 and 14. The Kansas City Region sanctioned paved "East to Easton" Tour TSD Rally on Saturday attracted 27 cars. Overall and 1st in Equipped class was Bruce Gezon (National RoadRally pointskeeper from Pittsburgh, PA) and Ron Ferris (St. Louis, MO) with 7 penalty points (seconds of error) over 5 checkpoints. Strattan and Deaton took 3rd overall and 1st in Stock class with a 29. The Kansas Region sanctioned unpaved "Pavement Ends" Tour TSD Rally on Sunday had the participation total reduced to 5 with Gezon/Ferris the only Equipped entrant among the 4 other Stock entrants. A scoring factor is applied when there is only 1 car in a class, as with the single E car. Gezon/Ferris scored the least penalty points (7 over 6 scored controls) but were moved to 3rd place in S when the 3.33 multiplier was applied. Strattan/Deaton received 1st place with 13 penalty points and Randy and Cheryl Gregg of Topeka were 2nd with 18. Kudos go to Rich Bireta of Lawrence for organizing and mastering this traditional fall rally weekend offering a very well run and professional event.
The National RoadRally championship standings for the 2010 year are now available on the SCCA web site. They are posted for Course, Tour and GTA events. Within each rally series they are ranked by Lifetime Points experience level (Grand Master, Expert, Senior and Sportsman). Sportsman is for those with 2 or less Lifetime Points (most of us) while Senior is for 3 to 49 points (by a fluke of luck years ago Strattan somehow ended up in this category). These results appear in a pdf of a huge spreadsheet, but with carefully zooming with your browser you can explore results. In Tour, Strattan is tied for 17 in Senior and Ken Olinger is tied for 21 in Sportsman. Their points result from running the 2009 Kansas Rally Weekend and working the June 12 2010 NEOKLA EuroMotor Tour/GTA rally. In GTA, it seems the final standings have not been correctly posted on the national web site, but from the unofficial final results locals Ken and Mason Frakes are tied for 27th, David and Marilyn Baker are tied for 31st and Randy and Lauren Wagner are tied for 33rd based on their performance in the EuroMotor GTA rally.
The NEOKLA road rally program has suffered from lack of interest in recent seasons. Participants always seem to enjoy the rallies, but low turn-out has been discouraging to those who put on the events. If you love rally, we really need members willing to take an active roll in planning and promoting events. Come to the monthly board meetings and volunteer!

Road Rally Explained
Want to try the rally concept, but aren't ready to build an all-out ProRally-like car? Try RoadRally. RoadRallys are run in your daily driver at the posted speed limits on public highways. The task is to navigate a predetermined course in a given time, following a set of instructions. It's not about speed. It's about accuracy - a chess match on wheels.
Each team consists of two competitors, a driver and a navigator. The only equipment need is a watch and an odometer.
